HARRISBURG, PA — The Foundation for Enhancing Communities (TFEC) announced $472,594 in grant
funds have been awarded to 82 Greater Harrisburg and surrounding area nonprofit organizations through
competitive grant opportunities. Awarded projects will commence between January 1, 2023, and December 31,
2023.
Grant recipients are registered 501(c) (3) nonprofit organizations or utilize a fiscal sponsor. After careful review
of numerous grant application submissions, the following were awarded funding for the 2022 – 2023 fiscal year:
Benjamin Franklin Trust Fund – A grant initiative of the Greater Harrisburg Community Foundation, a
regional foundation of TFEC, supports programs and services that work to increase the knowledge, quality of
life, or inspire positive outcomes for individuals and families living in the service area of Cumberland, Dauphin,
Franklin, Juniata, Mifflin, Lebanon, and Perry Counties, and/or the Dillsburg area of York County.
Benjamin Franklin Trust Fund awarded a total of $3,499 to 3 organizations for supporting key initiatives:
Bridge of Hope Harrisburg Area ($1,500), Lebanon Valley Council of the Arts ($1,500), and Harrisburg Area
Riverboat Society ($499).
Children’s Home Foundation Fund – A grant initiative of the Greater Harrisburg Community Foundation, a
regional foundation of TFEC, is a unique funding opportunity providing aid to economically disadvantaged
children by supporting human services, especially programs which address needs for food, clothing, and
shelter; education; and cultural enrichment and the arts.
Children’s Home Foundation Fund awarded $41,500 to 15 organizations:
Big Brother Big Sisters of the Capital Region ($2,500), Bethesda Mission of Harrisburg ($3,500), Capital Area
Girls on the Run ($3,000), Central Pennsylvania Food Bank ($3,000), Foundation for the Central Dauphin
Schools ($2,000), Healthy Steps Diaper Bank ($1,500), Joshua Group ($3,000), Jewish Family Services of
Greater Harrisburg ($1,000), Logos Academy Harrisburg ($3,000), Open Stage of Harrisburg ($2,000),
Shippensburg University Foundation ($2,000), St. Barnabas Center for Ministry ($2,500), Salvation Army
($6,000), The Urban Regenerative Farm, Incorporated ($3,500), and YWCA of Carlisle and Cumberland
County ($3,000).
The Fund for Women & Girls – A special initiative of TFEC, the mission is to broaden the awareness of and
response to issues affecting women and girls through the power of collective philanthropy.
The Fund for Women & Girls award $56,000 to 12 organizations:
Brethren Housing Association ($7,000), Community CARES ($2,500), Community Check-Up Center of South
Harrisburg ($7,000), Employment Skills Center ($7,000), Girls on the Run of Lancaster ($5,000), Greenlight
Operation ($4,000), Healthy Communities Partnership of Franklin County ($3,500), Healthy Steps Diaper Bank
($2,500), Safe Harbour, Inc ($5,000), Sexual Assault Resource and Counseling Center (SARCC) of Lebanon
and Schuylkill Counties ($4,000), Boys and Girls Club of Chambersburg and Shippensburg ($3,500), and
YWCA of Carlisle and Cumberland County ($5,000).
Martin M. Sacks Memorial Fund – A fund of TFEC, offers an annual competitive grant opportunity to any
nonprofit that supports youth and family-oriented programs and services that are consistent with the mission of
the applicant organization.
Martin M. Sacks Memorial Fund awarded a total of $9,498 to 12 organizations:
Brethren Community Ministries ($1,000), Bridge of Hope ($1,000), Community CARES ($500), Easter Seals
Western and Central Pennsylvania ($500), Gamut Theatre Group ($1,000), Harrisburg Area YMCA ($1,248),
Healthy Steps Diaper Bank ($1,000), KidsPeace National Centers for Kids In Crisis, Inc. ($500), Logos
Academy Harrisburg ($1,000), St. Stephens Episcopal School ($500), TFEC: Student Author Movement ($750)
and Unite Central PA ($500).
Upstream – A grant initiative of the Greater Harrisburg Community Foundation, a regional foundation of TFEC,
provides funding to nonprofits that improve our area communities by supporting existing or new “upstream”
systems, interventions, programs, or projects that attempt to create positive social change by addressing a
problem at its source rather than managing its “downstream” symptoms.
Upstream awarded a total of $365,596 to 61 organizations for supporting key initiatives:
