The Harrisburg Region is a part of an eight county area referred to as South Central PA. With a population of nearly 2 million people and close to $100 billion in gross domestic product, South Central PA has a strong labor force driving economic growth for Pennsylvania and beyond.

This study was commissioned by the Chamber & CREDC in 2022 to review the Harrisburg-Carlisle Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) (which covers Cumberland, Dauphin, and Perry counties) to inform and guide equitable economic growth in the region.

In coordination with the Harrisburg Regional Chamber & CREDC, Harrisburg University examined workforce participation and patterns in the downtown Harrisburg Area as part of its mission to support business creation and economic development.
