Announcing the Opening of the Summer Earn and Learn Program

We are thrilled to announce the launch of the highly anticipated Earn and Learn Program in our South-Central Pennsylvania region. Running from July 1st to August 9th, this program presents an incredible opportunity for businesses to engage with local youth and for students to gain valuable work experience. Here’s what you need to know:

About the Program: The Earn and Learn Program is designed to provide students aged 14-24 with internship opportunities at participating businesses across Adams, Cumberland, Dauphin, Franklin, Lebanon, Perry, and York County. Through a rigorous vetting process led by the PA CareerLink Youth Case Management team, students are matched with employers that align with their skills and interests, thanks to the expertise of the PA CareerLink Business Services Team.

Why Businesses Should Participate:

  • Access to Talent: Engage with a diverse pool of young talent, bringing fresh perspectives and innovative ideas to your workplace.
  • Community Impact: Showcase your commitment to community development by supporting youth employment initiatives.
  • Cost-Effective Solution: The program covers wages, workers’ compensation, and liability insurance for participating students, reducing financial barriers for businesses.
  • Future Hiring Potential: Explore the opportunity to hire outstanding students who have already demonstrated their skills and dedication during the program.

Benefits for Students:

  1. Skill Enhancement: Gain hands-on experience and develop essential skills for future career success.
  2. Networking Opportunities: Build professional networks and mentorship relationships within your chosen field.
  3. Financial Empowerment: Earn a competitive wage of $15 per hour and work flexible hours (20-40 hours per week).
  4. Career Exploration: Explore different industries and discover potential career paths through practical experience.

Program Logistics for Employers:

  • Consultation with the PA Business Services Team ensures a tailored match between students and employers.
  • An orientation session will be provided to familiarize employers and students with program expectations before the start date.
  • Employers hosting students under 18 must have appropriate child clearances for on-site staff leaders.
  • No cap on the number of interns per employer, with a simple overview of work assignments required for each student.
  • Eligibility requires completion of a work site agreement provided by the PA CareerLink Business Services Team.

In summary, the Earn and Learn Program is a unique opportunity to invest in our local workforce and shape the future of our community. We invite all businesses to participate: https://scpaworks.org/earn-learn-program
