Supreme Court Tariff Ruling: Impact on Businesses in Harrisburg Region

The Supreme Court tariff ruling has significant implications for businesses across the country, including importers in the Harrisburg region. On Friday, February 20, the U.S. Supreme Court struck down the sweeping tariffs imposed via executive order by the President. In a 6-3 decision, the Court ruled that the IEEPA did not give the executive branch the power to impose sweeping tariffs.

The Harrisburg region is home to several companies who import goods or materials. The Supreme Court did not weigh in on if, or how, the federal government should provide refunds to U.S. importers who have paid the tariffs, but any potential refunds could have a significant impact for those importers and consumers in the region.

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is providing information and resources for small businesses who have paid the tariffs over the last year, and they will continue to update their webpage as more clarity becomes available.
