Governor Shapiro Delivers 2026-27 Budget Address

On Tuesday, February 3, Governor Shapiro delivered his proposal for the 2026-27 Pennsylvania Budget to the General Assembly. The Governor proposed $53.3 billion in spending for the fiscal year, which is an increase of $2.72 billion from last year’s state budget.

The Harrisburg Regional Chamber issued the following statement:

“We commend Governor Shapiro for continuing to challenge government to evolve rather than simply operate as it always has. Recent efforts to streamline programs and processes, advance a more competitive business tax structure, and deploy economic development as a deliberate tool to attract and retain businesses have helped move Pennsylvania in the right direction.

The Harrisburg Region sits at the geographic and economic heart of the Commonwealth. Since our founding, our core city has served as a center of trade — evolving into a modern logistics hub and, increasingly, a region attracting interest from emerging sectors focused on innovation and advanced technology. Sustaining this momentum will require policies that support investment, workforce development, infrastructure, and innovation while avoiding new barriers that could undercut our competitiveness.

As the budget process continues, we look forward to working with the Governor and the General Assembly to strike the right balance between strategic investment and the Commonwealth’s long term fiscal stability. Together, we can advance economic prosperity in a way that strengthens quality of life across the Harrisburg Region and the Commonwealth as a whole.” Review the Governor’s 2026–27 full budget proposal here.
