YWCA’s Most Significant Milestone Yet

The YWCA Greater Harrisburg is pleased to announce the historic celebration of 125 years of service to the capitol region. They will be hosting a 125th Anniversary Celebration on August 10, 2019. The evening celebration will take place on the grounds of the YWCA, overlooking the Capitol City skyline – featuring heavy hors d’oeuvres, entertainment, mingling and excellent company!

Rewind to 1894 when a group of forward thinking women came together during the Industrial Revolution to create a safe space for women and girls coming into Harrisburg in search of employment opportunities. A movement was born and a lasting legacy carried forward for future generations.

The YWCA’s vision is to create a just community for all by ever striving to meet the needs of the community and always seeking to adapt and bridge the gap for underserved populations.

The YWCA is steadfast in their continued purpose to be a driving force that transforms lives. “We have come a long way from our roots as a noon rest room for young women. We are proud to serve this community and invite you to join us in celebrating our past and our future,” said Mary Quinn, CEO.

Direct services provided today include:  Crisis Response, Shelter and Housing Programs, Veterans’ Housing and Case Management, Childcare, Supported Employment, Legal Services for Victims, Supervised Visitation and Suits to Careers! Eighty-five cents of every dollar is used to support the individuals receiving services from the YWCA.

YWCA Greater Harrisburg is on a mission to eliminate racism, empower women, stand up for social justice, help families, and strengthen our community. YWCA Greater Harrisburg serves 35,000 individuals in the Capitol Region and the combined network of YWCA associations impact 25 million worldwide.
