WHITAKER CENTER DROPS THE SLEDGEHAMMER TO ENHANCE STEM LEARNING FOR YOUTH IN CENTRAL PENNSYLVANIA

WHO:             Whitaker Center for Science and the Arts, celebrating its 20th year serving the Central Pennsylvania community in arts, science, culture and education, will be joined by Dauphin County Commissioners – Jeff Haste, Mike Pries, and George P. Hartwick, III, Vibra Healthcare, Très Bonne Année, HARSCO and the Stabler Foundation 

WHAT:           Groundbreaking “Sledgehammer” event for new STEM Design Studios scheduled to open in early November 2019. 

WHEN:           Tuesday, August 27, 2019 – 10 am

WHY:             The newly designed studios will provide more opportunities for our region’s youth to better prepare for future STEM-related careers. 

According to a research study, posted on the Smithsonian website, by the end of 2018 2.4 million STEM jobs were projected to go unfilled and between 2017 and 2027, the number of STEM jobs will grow 13 percent compared to 9 percent for non-STEM jobs. And since 1990, according to PEW Research Center, employment in STEM occupations has grown 79% – increasing from 9.7 million to 17.3 million.
