WORMLEYSBURG, PA – Harrisburg Academy students David May ’16, Austin Dean ’16, and Matthew Reichwein ’16, have been recognized as Commended Scholars in the 2016 National Merit® Scholarship Program.

The National Merit Scholarship Program (NMSP) honors individual students who show exceptional academic ability and potential for success in rigorous college studies.  About 34,000 students throughout the country have been recognized as Commended Scholars.  Although these students, including May, Dean, and Reichwein, will not continue in the 2016 competition for National Merit Scholarship awards, they have placed in the top five percent of more than 1.5 million students who entered the 2016 competition by taking the 2014 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSATNMSQT®).

In addition to these talented Commended Scholars, the Academy is also proud to have two National Merit Scholarship Program Semifinalists this year — Wesley Sheker ’16 and Sarah Trindell ’16.

National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC), a not-for-profit organization that operates without government assistance, was established in 1955 specifically to conduct the annual National Merit Scholarship Program.  Scholarships are underwritten by NMSC with its own funds and by approximately 440 business organizations and higher education institutions that share NMSC’s goals of honoring the nation’s scholastic champions and encouraging the pursuit of academic excellence.
