Central Pennsylvania-based RLS Construction Group was recognized for the second year in a row as one of the safest in the construction industry by the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) Keystone Chapter. Recipient of the prestigious Diamond-Level STEP Award, RLS was the only company in the region to achieve this level of distinction.
“We are very proud to be recognized with the Diamond-Level award again this year,” said Robert L. Schopfer, President and CEO of RLS Construction Group. “This kind of consistent acknowledgement clearly shows the level of commitment our employees have to safety, and that we take it very seriously every day, on every job-site.”
The ABC STEP (Safety Training and Evaluation Process) program is designed to provide a structured approach to examine and develop a company’s safety program and to offer clear, legitimate and objective methods to measure a company’s safety program improvements. The qualifications for STEP Diamond-level include an OSHA Incidence Rate that is at least 50% below the national BLS average for the applicant’s NAICS code, an Experience Modification Rate (EMR) of less than 0.80 for companies under 100 employees, employee designated safety personnel who hold the OSHA 30-Hour certification, participation with the Drug- and Alcohol-Free Workplace pledge, no fatalities or catastrophic accidents nor willful/repeat OSHA citations, and achieve a determined level of scoring on 20 Key Components for the ABC STEP program.
“We don’t just talk about safety here, we live it,” said Schopfer. “Bottom line, the life and health of our employees is a priceless gift that we never take for granted. The most important thing we do is send our staff home safely to their families at the end of each day.”
