Central Pennsylvania-based RLS Construction Group received the prestigious Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) National Safety Excellence Award, on Thursday, March 5th at the ABC National Excellence in Construction Awards, in Fort Lauderdale, FL. According to Chris Williams, ABC National Director of Safety, RLS was chosen from over 900 eligible companies to compete for this honor, and only eleven companies received this award.
“We are very proud to be recognized in this way, on a national level,” said Robert L. Schopfer, President and CEO of RLS Construction Group. “Safety is the life of our company, and nothing we do is more important than protecting the health of our staff. The fact that our safety initiatives have been recognized among the best in the nation means that we are doing it right.”
In order to be considered for this national award, a company must first achieve ABC’s STEP (Safety Training and Evaluation Process) Diamond or Platinum designation, which is the upper echelon of STEP achievement. The ABC STEP program is designed to provide a structured approach to examine and develop a company’s safety program and to offer clear, legitimate and objective methods to measure a company’s safety program improvements. RLS Construction Group achieved STEP Platinum level in 2013 and Diamond level in 2014.
“We don’t just talk about safety here, we live it every day,” speaking about the safety culture at RLS, Schopfer emphasized the importance of safety on the job-site and in the workplace. “Bottom line, the life and health of our staff is a priceless gift that we never take for granted. That is why safety is a top priority to everyone at RLS.”
