Harrisburg, PA (November 6, 2015) – In conjunction with the Dauphin County Commissioners, the Humane Society of Harrisburg Area, Inc. (HSHA) will be hosting a “ribbon cutting” ceremony to celebrate the completion of the new roof for the shelter. Due in large part to the generosity of the Dauphin County Commissioners Mike Pries, Jeff Haste, and George Hartwick, HSHA was the recipient of funds from the Dauphin County Gaming Advisory Board. Today, the twenty year old original roof on the shelter has been replaced and the shelter staff doesn’t have to worry about leaks when it rains, structural damage in extreme weather conditions or safety issues.

Following the “ribbon cutting”, please join us in the shelter lobby for cookies, hot chocolate and coffee.

Media coverage is welcomed.

The mission of the Humane Society of Harrisburg Area (HSHA) is to build a better community for pets and people through compassion, protection, education, and collaboration.  HSHA is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization that has been serving the community and providing care for homeless animals since 1911.  The organization accepts homeless animals regardless of their breed, age, medical condition, or behavioral condition and takes in thousands of homeless animals each year.  However, HSHA does not euthanize adoptable animals due to lack of space or length of stay.  The organization receives no funding from the government or other animal welfare groups and must rely on private donations and fundraising activities to support its mission.
