With a recent expansion, RETTEW, a Lancaster-based engineering consulting firm with offices in Upper Allen Township, now offers possibly the largest indoor training center for safety consulting in the state.

Opened in late summer, the 3,200-square-foot facility will be used by RETTEW to conduct safety training courses, including specialized equipment simulations, for a variety of clients. The space is also available for professional events and meetings, with seating for 50 people and plenty of space for interactive demonstrations.

“Our safety consulting group is well-known in the area for their in-depth knowledge and hands-on teaching style,” said Mark Lauriello, president. “With such a stellar team, we’re excited to offer a great space to help clients throughout the state meet industry regulations and ensure their staff are equipped to keep their workplaces safe.”

The training center regularly offers courses such as fall protection, confined space and hazardous waste. Usually an outdoor space is necessary for that type of training; however, RETTEW’s indoor center has both the square footage and equipment needed to simulate real-life situations. Scaffolding stretches multiple stories high to demonstrate and train for fall protection and rescue. A specially designed confined space area can be customized for training under particular work conditions. HAZMAT suits, a spill pad, and air quality monitoring equipment are also featured in the room.

The classroom section is also equipped with the latest audiovisual technology, including easy connections to two projectors through a cell phone or ClickShare item, four wireless microphones for placement throughout the room, and power outlets at each table.

“Keeping workers safe is our passion,” said Luke Lazar, safety consulting director. “We designed this space to train the workforce of Pennsylvania and beyond with the knowledge and experience to ensure after each workday they go home to their families.”

RETTEW, ranked on Engineering News-Record’s 2015 list of top design firms, began providing civil engineering and surveying services in 1969. Today RETTEW has more than 350 employees and ten offices located in Athens, Lancaster, Lehigh Valley, Mechanicsburg, Pittsburgh and Williamsport, P.A.; Canton, Ohio; Delhi, N.Y.; Bridgeport, W.V., and Denver, Colo.
