REALTORS® from the Greater Harrisburg Association of REALTORS® (GHAR) volunteered with New Hope Ministries, Central Pennsylvania Food Bank, Project Share, Cocoa Packs, and Downtown Daily Bread throughout the month of October.

Pennsylvania REALTORS® across the commonwealth are working in their communities to make a difference through REALTORS® Reach Out, a statewide initiative held annually in October. Since its inception, more than 16,000 REALTORS® have participated in REALTORS® Reach Out. Over the last 10 years, REALTORS® and their local associations have collectively raised more than $511,000 and collected 56,700 pounds of food and donated clothing items for various charities.

Locally, more than 50 REALTORS® pitched in to sort and pack food and donated clothing items, distribute winter coats to youth and their families, help families in need with their groceries, and assist in the food pantry for the homeless in our community.

GHAR members from Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Homesale Realty; Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage; Century 21 Realty Services; Dream Home Realty; Help U Sell Detwiler Realty; Homebridge Financial Services,; Howard Hanna Real Estate Services; Iron Valley Real Estate; Keller Williams Realty; CentralNextHome Capital Realty; RE/MAX 1st Advantage; RE/MAX Realty Associates; Straub & Associates Realty Group, Inc.; TeamPete Realty Services and Turn Key Realty Group all committed to making a positive impact in the greater Harrisburg community.

New Hope Ministries is working to prevent hunger and homelessness and offering transportation, utility and medical assistance at each of its six centers throughout central Pennsylvania. The organization holds a variety of workforce development programs for adults and their youth programs provide assistance with homework, life skills, and more while promoting positive behavior and values.

The Central Pennsylvania Food Bank is the largest non-profit food distribution organization in central Pennsylvania. Last year, the food bank distributed more than 22 million pounds of food to more than 800 partner agencies.

Project SHARE is an interfaith cooperative effort, begun in 1985, involving over 66 local congregations, schools, and civic organizations. Contributions of food, money, and volunteerism provide essential basic assistance to more than 1000 families each month. Project SHARE distributes food on the week of the third Thursday of each month.

Cocoa Packs provides a variety of nutritious breakfast, lunch, and dinner items to students K-12 in the Hershey area. Their weekly supplemental food program distributes to over 200 students, specifically on weekends, holidays and summers when students are not able to access school food programs.

Downtown Daily Bread is a mission project of Pine Street Presbyterian Church in downtown Harrisburg. They operate under the belief that no one should go hungry or without shelter. Addressing basic needs is the first step in helping their clients. It is also necessary to build personal relationships with clients in order to connect them to community services. Assessing needs and giving clients education, emotional support, and access to county, medical, and housing assistance will improve the quality of their lives.
