For the 4th year in a row, Clean & Green Harrisburg is coordinating the Great Harrisburg Litter CleanUp (GHLC) for Saturday April 16th from 9:00am-1:00pm.

Great Harrisbrg Litter Cleanup
This citywide community effort aims to pick up litter from the city’s streets, alleyways, and public spaces. It’s important to note this is not a City bulk clean up initiative. No construction or demolition material will be accepted during the CleanUp.

Made up of a team of neighborhood groups, volunteer organizations, community members, and regional representatives, the Clean & Green GHLC committee is asking the public to:

  • Register to volunteer to help pick up litter on April 16th
  • Report illegal dump sites to the city & county
  • Spread the word about this event

Multiple clean ups will be located throughout the city based on public input and participation.

Once again, major partners include LCSWMA, The City of Harrisburg, and Dauphin County Solid Waste Management and Recycling. Other major partners include Capital Region Water, Bridgestone Partners, and Keep Harrisburg/Dauphin County Beautiful as well as several local businesses that heeded the call for sponsorship.

“It’s no secret that the city is plagued by litter,” says Julie Walter, point person for the GHLC. “Some areas are worse than others, but there’s no part of the city that doesn’t share this problem. In the past, we’ve had great success working together to pick it up and to raise awareness about keeping Harrisburg clean. It’s especially important here because this is our state capital and a river city, part of the Chesapeake Bay Watershed.”

The GHLC is part of the Great American Cleanup and Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful’s “Pick It Up PA Days”
