HARRISBURG, Pa. (May 27, 2015) — PinnacleHealth was rated top performing in five common surgical procedures and conditions by U.S. News & World Report in its new Best Hospitals for Common Care ratings. U.S. News created the ratings to help patients identify facilities near to them that excel in caring for common conditions.
U.S. News evaluated 4,600 facilities to assess performance on the five conditions: hip replacement, knee replacement, heart bypass surgery, congestive heart failure and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
Evaluation was based on performance across more than 25 quality measures—including readmissions, mortality, infections, and patient experience scores—and analyzed the records of more than five million patients. The ratings were based on data from CMS, the American Hospital Association, and the Society of Thoracic Surgeons.
“PinnacleHealth has a strong quality and safety record as reported by various organizations,” says Michael A. Young, president and CEO of PinnacleHealth System. “This latest acknowledgement recognizes the care given to patients from the moment they enter our doors through well after they leave us. Patient satisfaction and outcomes factored into this ranking, and it’s a tribute to every employee, because each person at PinnacleHealth influences those measures.”
This new rating—Best Hospitals for Common Care—was created by U.S. News to supplement—and not replace—its existing “Best Hospital” and “Honor Roll” rankings.
On the U.S. News Best Hospital list, PinnacleHealth is top-ranking on the U.S. News Best Hospitals in South Central Pennsylvania list, is one of the top-performing hospitals on the Harrisburg Metro Area list and ranks 31 overall out of 250 Pennsylvania hospitals on the Best Hospitals in Pennsylvania list.
