Palmer Earns MASITE President’s Award

(Harrisburg, Pa.) The Mid-Atlantic Section of the Institute of Transportation Engineers (MASITE) presented its 2014 President’s Award to Gannett Fleming’s Steve Palmer, PE. Palmer, a project manager in the Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, Transportation Engineering, Operations, and Planning Group, serves as MASITE’s Central Area Programing Committee Chair.
MASITE’s President’s Award is an annual honor that recognizes a member who has gone above and beyond in their dedication and support for the Section. Palmer was recognized for his outstanding service to the organization, specifically his work with the Central Area Programming Committee, which is responsible for coordinating Section events throughout Central Pennsylvania. He has chaired the committee for three years.
“This award represents Steve’s dedication to advancing the transportation engineering field in our region, as well as his commitment to providing outstanding service to our clients,” said Mark Metil, PE, PTOE, director of Gannett Fleming’s Transportation Engineering, Operations, and Planning Group. “By serving in a leadership role for a professional organization like MASITE, Steve ensures that he is at the forefront of knowledge and trends in the industry.”
With nearly 15 years of experience, Palmer has led all types of traffic engineering projects, such as transportation engineering studies nationwide, traffic signal design projects, and traffic engineering training and reference document preparation. His specialties are entry control facility design and performance and work zone mobility analysis. Prior to becoming a project manager, Palmer served as a transportation engineer and designer.
Palmer holds a bachelor of science in civil engineering from The Pennsylvania State University. He has been a member of the Institute of Transportation Engineers and the Mid-Atlantic Section since 2002. In addition, he completed the Advanced Work Zone Management and Design Course from the National Highway Institute.
MASITE is one of more than 80 regional chapters of the Institute of Transportation Engineers. The MASITE section covers Pennsylvania, southern New Jersey, Delaware, and West Virginia. The section’s membership consists of transportation engineers, transportation planners, and those affiliated with the transportation engineering profession. MASITE currently has more than 600 active members.
