Capital Area Transit (CAT) announces its next public input sessions for the CAT 20/20 Plan, a comprehensive assessment of its existing transit service. This study is the first of its type in CAT’s 45-year history, and it comes at an important time for CAT. With increasing interest in transit services and pending budget deficits, CAT must rethink the way transit services are provided and look for new ways to provide efficient and effective public transit.
CAT will be displaying several scenarios that demonstrate different service concepts based on the input that was received from the public in August. “It is important to stress that these are simply concepts that were created by the project team based on the feedback that was received from public meetings, comments, and surveys”, states Executive Director Richard Farr.
Farr mentions that, “to date the efforts have looked at important destinations, bus stops, service hours, and service.” CAT now wants to share those concepts with the public to obtain additional feedback. Final decisions have not been determined.
The CAT 20/20 comprehensive assessment is just over halfway through the service design process. After this round of meetings, there will be additional opportunities for the public to participate and provide valuable feedback to help create the new system.
Public meetings will be held to review the proposed concepts and gain feedback for the process. Four public meeting sessions will be held on Wednesday, October 30, 2019 or Thursday, October 31, 2019 as follows:
- Wednesday, October 30, 2019 from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM at Strawberry Square, located at 320 Market Street, Harrisburg, PA 17101
- Wednesday, October 30, 2019 from 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM at the Giant Food Stores Community Room, located at 3301 E. Trindle Road, Camp Hill, PA 17011
- Thursday, October 31, 2019 from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM at the Keystone Building, located at 400 North Street, Harrisburg, PA 17120
- Thursday, October 31, 2019 from 3:00 PM – 6:00 PM at the Hamilton Health Center Highmark Community Room, located at 110 S. 17th Street, Harrisburg, PA 17104
The meetings will be in an open house format. The public is encouraged to stop by to review materials and provide comments. For questions about the CAT 20/20 plan or the public meetings, please contact CAT at info@cattransit.com. Materials shared at the public forums will be displayed on the website.
