HARRISBURG, PA (Jan. 8, 2019) – The Harrisburg Regional Chamber Board of Directors and the Capital Region Economic Development Corporation (CREDC) Board of Directors announced the organization’s 2019 Boards of Directors Chairs and new members. Barb Bowker of PSECU will serve as Harrisburg Regional Chamber Board of Directors Chair and Jeannine Peterson of Hamilton Health Center will serve as CREDC Board of Directors Chair throughout 2019.
“We’re fortunate to have outstanding bold leaders with strong track records take the helm of the Chamber and CREDC boards,” said David Black, President and CEO of the Harrisburg Regional Chamber and CREDC. “We look forward to working alongside Barb and Jeannine this year to produce powerful results for our region.”
Bowker is the Vice President of Marketing and Membership Development at PSECU. In this role, she oversees the marketing and communication efforts for the state’s largest credit union and devises strategies to position it strongly in the marketplace. In addition, she leads PSECU’s Membership Development efforts, which include both University Development and Business Development components. Supported by the credit union “people helping people” philosophy, Bowker’s more than 30-year career at PSECU has afforded her the opportunity to become very involved in the community, and she has put the servant-leadership lessons from her 2012 Leadership Harrisburg Area Community Leadership Class into action.
Bowker is a graduate of Shippensburg University, holding a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration.
“The Harrisburg Regional Chamber & CREDC energizes and engages regional companies and organizations to foster a vibrant business community,” Bowker said. “The leadership provided by the Chamber helps deliver powerful results for our region by piloting economic development initiatives, advocacy change and strategic business decisions. We as individual businesses need to come together in order to make change, and I find that the Chamber lies in the center of it all.”
Peterson is CEO of Hamilton Health Center. She has more than 35 years of experience in public and community health, with a specific focus on issues that disproportionately impact minority and low income populations. She has held numerous executive management positions, including deputy director of a federally funded Technical Assistance Project for a national consulting firm. She also served as Deputy Secretary of Health for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for eight years, where she was responsible for administering the state’s drug and alcohol program, maternal and child health program, and preventative and communicable disease programs.
Peterson earned her master’s degree in Public Administration from Pennsylvania State University and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Michigan State University. She is also a graduate of the Johnson & Johnson/UCLA Health Care Executive Management Program and is on the board of directors of several local organizations.
“I am grateful to give back to an organization that has provided so much support for my own company over the years,” Peterson said. “In 2017 alone, CREDC delivered $13 million in economic impact for our tri-county region. In the last 17 years, CREDC has secured $152 million in public assistance for 430 clients, leading to local businesses creating and retaining nearly 14,000 jobs. I look forward to leading CREDC this year and finding ways to bring even more economic funding and support back to our region.”
