Joshua Group to host 2nd Annual Dancing with the Cars fundraising event

The Joshua Group is a nonprofit organization focused on the guidance of at-risk youth living in the Allison Hill neighborhood of Harrisburg, through mentoring and the shaping of positive role models. Since its inception now over 20 years ago, The Joshua Group has deeply ingrained itself into the fabric of the neighborhood, working tirelessly to reshape and improve the futures of our students using existing educational resources, adding additional support services for academic success being realized.

After getting its start in 1998 using the old Saint Francis School building and gym as the makeshift headquarters for our outreach, the Joshua Group was largely, then, a recreational program for city kids. As its programs grew, they recognized a huge chasm for kids in their educational success – graduating.

In 2003, with the help of a handful of generous supporters, the Joshua Group restored a house on the 1400 block of Market Street and established it as its new base of operations. This new location on Market Street gave them a greater presence in the neighborhood and allowed them to establish a variety of new programs to include tutoring to fulfill the increased demand for outreach services.

In 2007, The Joshua Group was invited to become a Program Partner of the United Way, thanks to its work within the local community. That put it on the greater community map. In 2014, it opened the Joshua Learning Center on Allison Hill, where it offers an array of “cradle-to-career” educational programs and services for now over 200 low-income children and families from the neighborhood.

Now, as the Joshua Group continues to grow and advance its mission, it asks for the community’s help in supporting them as they look towards future growth opportunities.
