Mechanical Development Engineer III

The Mechanical Development Engineer III will support all mechanical aspects of the development and design of products and product improvements of all levels of difficulty requiring the use of independent judgment.  The ME will work both independently and as part of a team to develop creative solutions based on requirements from specific customers or general market requirements.  This requires independent analysis skills and a high level of proficiency in 3D Modeling and 2D Drawing capabilities.



Estimate engineering, tooling, component, assembly and testing as associated with product development
Calculate costing on proposed products with basic direction
Work independently with established suppliers to obtain pricing information
Supervise individuals or groups regarding project management activities
Interface directly with customers, under basic supervision, to obtain & fulfill product requirements
Work with Product Marketing and Manufacturing on change projects
Design using company procedures in ISO 9001 environment.
Involved in the planning and development of test programs for prototypes and series products in conjunction with other professionals
Attend and support appropriate Trade Shows, Seminars, Standards and Committee meetings
Understand and be able to implement work based on the Standard Potential Design and Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (WI H-2-731006)
Understand and follow the Standard Advanced Quality Planning (7.1/001) as required in the quality planning process Work as directed with senior level personnel/managers in obtaining QA Inspection data
Ability to run linear analysis
Ability to run complex flow analysis and make judgments under basic supervision
Create BOM structure in accordance with manufacturing, production, and Phoenix Contact process requirements
Acts as a subject matter expert for engineering control systems
Willingness to do other electrical and mechanical design tasks as needed

Minimum BS Degree in Mechanical Engineering
5-10 years of development experience within a structured development group
Design experience with contacts, harsh environment connectors and cable assemblies/harness preferred
Tactical group/team written/verbal communication to peers/management
Works within framework of identified organizational strategy
Must be proficient in 3D Solid Modeling
Must be proficient in creating 2D drawings according to the Engineering Drawings specification (PI H-3-73002)
Work as directed with Senior level personnel/managers in interpreting QA Inspection Data
Has a general understanding of strength and analysis theories and is able to interpret them
Meets 100% of Development Engineer (Mechanical) Level III Competency Profile
Must be familiar with basic manufacturing techniques
Basic electrical knowledge required
Must be eligible to obtain passport

Must be able to travel by air
Occasional overseas travel for extended periods required
Occasional Domestic Travel required
Must be able to sit for extended periods of time
Must be able to communicate effectively in English
