Job Description:

Create unforgettable memories for our guests by sharing conservation messaging and natural history information through a variety of educational programming. ZooAmerica Educator Aides are responsible for the daily care and maintenance of our ambassador animal collection and must be able to work 30-40 hours/week May – August.

This position may provide care, supervision, guidance, or control of children or may have regular, ongoing contact with children that is integral to the responsibilities of the position. As a result, in accordance with Pennsylvania’s Child Protective Services Law, newly hired candidates are required to obtain the following clearances: a report of criminal history from the Pennsylvania State Police (PSP), Child Abuse History Clearance from the Department of Human Services (Child Abuse), and Fingerprint-based federal criminal history submitted through the Pennsylvania State Police or its authorized agent (FBI). Completed clearances are required to be submitted prior to starting employment.

Job Functions:

Presenting live animal presentations as part of a variety of interpretive programs.
Have the ability to speak before an audience to deliver comprehensible and appropriate animal presentations.
Daily care and maintenance of ambassador animals which includes routine cleaning, feeding, general husbandry, record keeping, medical treatments and daily observations.
Assisting and implementing a variety of interpretive programs for groups of all ages, both onsite at the zoo, as well as offsite for outreach programs.
Assist with all aspects of summer ZooCamp
Assembly of education materials in preparation for the daily activities.
Cleaning and organizing all education areas.
Conducting keeper chats on zoo animals and answering guest questions
Basic Qualifications:

Must be at least 18 years of age on the date of applying.
Current or past coursework in environmental education, biology or related field
A minimum of one (1) year experience with professional animal care or science education
Must possess valid driver’s license and demonstrate a satisfactory driving record
Additional Qualifications:

Physical strength and stamina required
Strong interest and/or knowledge in the natural history of North American species
Experience and/or strong interest in working with children on a daily basis
Proven organizational skills and attention to detail
Must be adaptable to a variety of different teaching/interpretive situations
Must be friendly, upbeat, and work well with other employees and be able to interact with guests
Must have reliable, steady transportation to and from work
Must be able to speak, write, and understand English
Must display a positive attitude, eagerness to learn, and professional image in compliance with the Hershey Entertainment & Resorts guidelines
Must have the ability to safeguard confidential information
Ability to withstand unpleasant working conditions
Ability to understand, foresee and apply safety precautions applicable to the work
Ability to follow written and oral instructions
Have the ability to speak before an audience and deliver an understandable and acceptable lecture on animals
Working Conditions:

Must be able to work flexible hours including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays
Must be able to work in combination of indoor and outdoor weather conditions
Physical requirements include standing, bending, sitting, walking, and communicating
Must be able to lift a minimum of 40 lbs. independently
Must be comfortable climbing up an 8ft. ladder and fence
