Shippensburg University is currently seeking applications for a Business Consultant located in the Small Business Development Center (SBDC).
The Shippensburg University SBDC is one of eighteen Centers in the Pennsylvania Small Business Development Center (PASBDC) network and is supported in part by annual legislative funding appropriations through the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) and the US Small Business Administration (SBA). The SBDCserves a four-county region consisting of Adams, Cumberland, Franklin, and York counties. Travel to outreach locations within the SBDC service area is required. Participation as a presenter in outreach events or educational programs may also be required.
The consultant must manage and coordinate client services following guidelines developed by the PASBDC. Primary responsibility is to provide timely and effective assistance to nascent entrepreneurs and small business owners. General business areas where assistance will be required include: market research, business financing and financial projections, business planning, state and federal regulations, record keeping, product pricing, and other areas of management and technical assistance to promote small business success and growth. Consulting services targeted to potentially high growth companies may include raising growth capital, managing cash flow, managing growth, entering new markets, hiring and retaining personnel and addressing regulatory concerns.

Qualified candidates will have a Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally accredited institution in business management, marketing, accounting, finance, economics or a related field and a minimum of two years of related experience. Experience should include significant knowledge of entrepreneurship, small business management and operations, accounting and financial analysis, marketing, market research, human resource management, financing and legal issues. Knowledge of financial lending procedures, and strong interpersonal, communication, problem-solving and listening skills is also required. In addition, candidates should have strong organizational and time management skills and the ability to network effectively with partners and stakeholders. Successful performance in an on-campus interview is required.
