January 15 Application Deadline Fast Approaching: Summer Internship Program Allows Local College Students to Learn About Public Service
YORK (January 11, 2016) – For nearly 40 years, the mission of the 4th Congressional District Internship Association has been to give local college students an opportunity to take part in the democratic process. The Association is continuing that proud tradition by announcing the application process for its 2016 summer internship program.
Taking place from May through August, the internship program will allow several area college students a chance to learn about the realities of public service through full-time internships with Congressman Scott Perry (PA-4). Each intern spends five weeks in Washington, D.C. assisting with legislative projects, and spends five weeks assisting with constituent casework in one of Congressman Perry’s district offices in Gettysburg, Wormleysburg and York.
Any undergraduate college student who is a resident of the 4th Congressional District of Pennsylvania and has completed their freshman year of undergraduate studies by the beginning of the internship is eligible to apply.
Thanks to the generous financial donations from members of the 4th Congressional District Internship Association and other citizens, the interns are able to receive a weekly stipend during this internship experience. Likewise, while working in Washington, D.C., intern housing is provided at no charge at George Washington University. Housing is not provided while the interns work in the district offices.
Interns are selected based on academic performance, extracurricular activities, and their demonstrated commitment to the ideals of public service. The selection of interns is made on a non-partisan basis. Internship applications can be downloaded from the 4th District Internship Association’s website at: http://www.4thdistrictintern.org. Completed forms can be mailed to: 4th Congressional District Internship Association, P.O. Box 1961, York, PA 17405.
