In honor of American Heart Month, Holy Spirit−A Geisinger Affiliate will offer free CPR classes for the community on Saturday, Feb. 25. American Heart Association-trained instructors will lead the classes in Holy Spirit Hospital’s auditorium, 503 N. 21st St., Camp Hill.
“We want people in the community to learn CPR so they can help a victim of cardiac arrest until EMS arrives,” said Christy Liddington, B.S.N., R.N., Training Center Coordinator. “CPR is easy to learn and we are offering it free so more people take advantage of this opportunity.”
“BLS for Healthcare Providers” will be offered for healthcare professionals from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., and the “Heartsaver AED” class will be offered to community members beginning at 9 a.m. Both courses will teach participants the skills needed to successfully perform CPR on a victim of cardiac arrest. Participants will also learn how to help a person who is choking, and how to recognize the signs of a stroke, heart attack, cardiopulmonary arrest, and airway obstruction.
Automated external defibrillators (AEDs) are commonplace throughout our communities and are fairly easy to use. Participants will receive hands-on experience with an AED so in the event of an emergency they will know exactly how to use one.
After successfully completing the course, each participant will receive a course completion card. To register for these free classes, please call 717-972-4262. Early registration is recommended, as space is limited.
