CAMP HILL – Holy Spirit–A Geisinger Affiliate has earned the NICHE (Nurses Improving Care for Health System Elders) designation, recognizing Holy Spirit’s ongoing commitment to geriatric nursing care.
“Through our participation in the NICHE program we are able to offer evidence-based, interdisciplinary approaches that promote positive experiences for the older adults in our care,” says Ann E. Hendrickson, MS, RN, ACNS-BC, Medical-Surgical Clinical Nurse Specialist. “This results in improved outcomes and greater patient and family satisfaction.”
Holy Spirit has developed an interdisciplinary team to assist in the development and implementation of its NICHE program. This team also will focus on improving care for older adults in the areas of early mobility, falls, and delirium. “Our goal is to have several registered nurses serve as geriatric RN experts on each unit. We also plan to provide basic geriatric nursing education for all RNs,” says Hendrickson.
“Holy Spirit shows a tremendous commitment to meet the most critical challenge of our times: quality care of older adults,” says Barbara Bricoli, MPA, Executive Director, NICHE. “The hospital’s dedication to drive continuous improvement processes and enhance care marks them as leaders in the field.”
