Harrisburg Regional Chamber & CREDC Announces Retirement of Longtime Leader David Black

The Harrisburg Regional Chamber & CREDC today announced longtime President and CEO David Black will be retiring from his position with the organization in mid-2021. A national search for his replacement will begin early next year.

Black joined the Chamber & CREDC in 2001, building a talented staff and increasing the organization’s capacity to serve Chamber members, CREDC clients and the broader community; to advocate for public policy; and to collaborate in positioning the organization and region for the future.

“On behalf of CREDC Chair Ben Dunlap and myself, I want to thank Dave for his steady hand as steward of the ship,” said Tom Sposito, Chamber Board Chair.Dave was likely challenged more in 2020 than in any other year during his tenure. Over his nearly two decades of service, Dave has helped to guide and grow the Chamber and CREDC as the go-to organization serving our business community and the region as a whole.”

With extraordinary volunteer leadership and staff, Black helped raise the profile and effectiveness of the organization both within the region and the state, while spreading the good news about the Harrisburg region’s (Cumberland, Dauphin and Perry counties) quality of life nationwide.

“Every great region has a great organization, and the Chamber & CREDC has been this region’s great organization since 1884,” Black said. “It has been my pleasure to serve for nearly 20 years. My goals have always included making a difference. Together with great volunteers, staff, supportive members and donors, this organization has done just that. I’ve been fortunate to be a small part of the success and growth of the organization and region. Many thanks to people from all sectors of the region and beyond for the support, collaboration and friendship. I look forward to the successful transition of leadership in the months ahead and a bright future for the Chamber & CREDC and our region.”

The Chamber & CREDC has selected Jorgenson Consulting, an executive search firm with expertise in chamber of commerce and economic development corporation searches, to lead the process. Todd Jorgenson, managing director and principal, will be leading the search. The firm will work with a search committee composed of members of the Chamber & CREDC’s boards of directors.

Early in 2021, Jorgenson Consulting will begin the process by conducting a series of meetings with the search committee, boards, Chamber & CREDC staff, a cross-section of community stakeholders, and regional partners to develop a position profile that captures the desired experience and leadership characteristics for the organization’s preferred candidate.
