Harrisburg Academy Students and Teacher Receive Awards in International Ocean Awareness Contest

WORMLEYSBURG, PA – Harrisburg Academy is proud to have a number of students who were awarded Honorable Mentions in the 2015 Ocean Awareness Student Contest. These students, including Nadiya Torchilo ’19, Lissette Vega ’19, and Maci Wert ’19, submitted film projects and were recognized from over 1,100 submissions from 35 countries. As Honorable Mentions, the projects will be featured in an initiative that aims to bring ocean-themed art to public spaces in the next year.
In addition, Lindsay Bowman, Middle School social studies teacher, received a Sponsor Recognition Award.
The Ocean Awareness Student Contest, which challenges students to combine art, science, and advocacy to speak out on behalf of the environment, is sponsored by Bow Seat Ocean Awareness Programs. This non-profit organization, founded in 2011 by Linda Cabot, aims to promote ocean stewardship in the next generation.
