Gannett Fleming Project Ranked No. 4 on Roads & Bridges Annual List

Oct. 11, 2018 (Harrisburg, Pa.) Gannett Fleming, a global infrastructure and engineering firm, is pleased to announce that Roads & Bridges magazine recognized the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT), Northcentral District, I-40, Devil Dog Wash project as a top 10 road of 2018.

“Gannett Fleming continues to make an impact across the nation as evidenced by this outstanding Roads & Bridges ranking,” said Bob Scaer, PE, Gannett Fleming chairman and CEO. “Our innovative, collaborative teams put their determination and passion into all projects and this recognition validates our commitment to providing excellence in all we do.”

#4 – I-40, Devil Dog Wash

Gannett Fleming served as the lead designer for the ADOT Northcentral District, I-40, Devil Dog Wash project. Throughout the 2016-2017 winter, this section of roadway began experiencing accelerated pavement degradation, reaching catastrophic proportions including regular tire blow-outs and vehicle damage. New potholes developed quickly, and repair efforts resulted in triple the budgeted maintenance costs for ADOT by the end of winter.

As a result, ADOT contracted Gannett Fleming to develop a long-term solution for the extreme pavement failure on more than 10 miles of damaged roadway. The Gannett Fleming team developed construction documents in just 70 days and implemented an innovative way to use doweled Portland cement concrete pavement, reducing the risk of subgrade exposure.

Aligned with ADOT’s infrastructure improvement goals, the Devil Dog Wash project is rehabilitating a pothole-riddled stretch of I-40 through better drainage and innovative upgrades safeguarding continuous travel, vital for community access and commerce activities.

Roads & Bridges, a leading magazine in the transportation, construction, and maintenance industries, bases their annual ranking on project challenges, impact to region, and scope of work. The complete list of Top 10 Roads for 2018 can be found on the publications website.
