Gannett Fleming Announces 2017 Scholarship Recipients

Three children of Gannett Fleming employees have been named recipients of the 2017 Gannett Fleming Scholarship Program and will be awarded a $4,000 scholarship toward their college educations.
“We received a record number of applicants this year, and our judges had a very challenging time choosing the scholarship recipients,” said Gannett Fleming Chairman and CEO Robert M. Scaer, PE. “They selected three outstanding young people who have worked extremely hard in school and in service to their community. We are pleased that we can play a role in helping them achieve their educational goals.”
The recipients are:
- Victoria Gillespie, the daughter of Andrew Gillespie, PE, PEng, a vice president and Gannett Fleming Transit & Rail Systems project director based in the firm’s Philadelphia office
- Ahona Mazumder, the daughter of Atanu Mazumder, SE, PE, RA, a Civil/Structural Department manager at LDP, a Gannett Fleming Company, based in Chicago
- Patrick Mulqueen, the son of Bryan Mulqueen, PE, a senior vice president and director of the Transit & Rail Global Business Line based in Raleigh, North Carolina.
These scholars were selected by a panel of nonpartisan judges because of their outstanding scholarship, leadership, and character.
Victoria graduated summa cum laude from Central Bucks High School West in Doylestown, Pennsylvania, in June. She plans to attend the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill this fall to pursue a chemistry degree and eventually become a doctor. Patrick, a graduate of Cary Academy in Cary, North Carolina, is on the dean’s list at UNC-Chapel Hill where he is majoring in business administration. Ahona is a graduate of Downers Grove South High School in Downers Grove, Illinois. She is a senior at Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business in Bloomington, Indiana, and is pursuing a triple major in marketing, operations management, and international business.
The Gannett Fleming Scholarship Program was created in 2000 to recognize and support the children and grandchildren of the firm’s employees. The recipients were chosen based on their responses to two essay questions, academic performance, involvement in community and extracurricular activities, and letters of recommendation.
