From the Desk of Dave Black: June 2, 2020

To our Visionary Members,

Like many of you, I have been profoundly impacted by the brutal death of George Floyd in Minneapolis, subsequent reaction and recent protests, both peaceful and not so peaceful.

The Chamber and CREDC stands together with our members and broader business community against systemic racism, and we know we can do better. For the sake of our collective future and that of our children and grandchildren, we must do better.

Our members are a visionary and diverse group of organizations across South Central Pennsylvania. The people who make up these small businesses, mid-sized firms, large corporations and non-profits do incredible things supporting our community each and every day. Over the last 20 years we have worked collectively to raise awareness and take proactive steps in our organizations to consciously include diversity and inclusion in our day to day decision making. Our commitment to change must increase.

We know we cannot create change alone, but we also know we can move the needle together. I urge you and your team to ask yourselves these questions: “What is my organization doing to help? What else can we do to make a difference?” Then take action. As an organization trying to help businesses get through the pandemic, we are taking time to address these questions as well and take positive action.

I also want to take a moment to express our sincere appreciation to a remarkable man, Harrisburg’s Police Commissioner Thomas Carter. Commissioner Carter demonstrated extraordinary leadership connecting with protestors in Harrisburg over the weekend and honoring their right to be heard, ultimately keeping a volatile situation from becoming more dangerous for all. His actions protected the safety of our community, both people and property, and the police protecting our City and our Capitol Grounds. Thank you Commissioner Carter for your leadership.

Thank you for taking time to read this. We are here for you and during this difficult time, your input is valued more than ever. We are here to listen.
