For the 3rd year in a row, Clean & Green Harrisburg is coordinating the Great Harrisburg Litter CleanUp (GHLC) for Saturday May 2nd 9am-1pm.

Made up of a team of neighborhood groups, volunteer organizations, community members, and regional representatives, the Clean & Green GHLC committee is asking the public to:

  • Save the Date for this city-wide effort to remove litter from Harrisburg’s streets,

alleyways, and public spaces

  • Register to volunteer to help pick up litter on May 2nd
  • Report illegal dump sites to the city & county before May 2nd
  • Spread the word about this “Pick Up Litter” day

Multiple clean ups will be located throughout the city based on public input and participation. Area businesses are meeting the call for support and sponsorship. LCSWA, City of Harrisburg, and Dauphin County are part of the process to ensure proper collection and disposal of the litter. Illegal dumpsites are being recorded to note illegal dumping that occurs from now until the event. No construction or demolition material will be accepted during the CleanUp.

“It’s truly a coalition that makes this happen,” says Julie Walter, point person for the GHLC. “There’s too much litter on the streets. It’s vital that we all work together to not only pick it up, but to think about keeping Harrisburg clean. It’s especially important because Harrisburg is a river city and part of the Chesapeake Bay Watershed.” The GHLC is part of the Great American Cleanup and Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful’s “Pick It Up PA Days!”
