Butz Family of Companies ranks among Top 400 contractors and Top 100 CM-at-Risk Firms in 2015

Allentown, PA, June 25, 2015 . . . The Butz Family of Companies, consisting of Alexander Building Construction Co., Alvin H. Butz, Inc. and Shoemaker Construction Co., earned a spot on Engineering News-Record’s (ENR) lists of the Top 400 Contractors and Top 100 CM-at-Risk Firms in 2015.  This year, the firm ranked #219 on the Top 400 Contractors list, showing remarkable consistency after having ranked #209 last year.  They also ranked #99 on the Top 100 CM-at-Risk list. The Butz Family of Companies is the only firm headquartered in the Lehigh Valley to be ranked on either list.

ENR uses construction revenue from the previous year as its primary grading criteria, making both lists a showcase of only the best and most sought-after construction management and general contracting firms.


The Butz Family of Companies completed 35 projects in 2014 including:

  • PPL Center
  • Amtrak – 30th Street Station West Plaza and North Deck Renovations
  • Geisinger Health System – Gray’s Woods Surgery Center and Parking Deck
  • ArcelorMittal – Steelton Ingot Facility Expansion
  • Moravian College – Collier Hall of Science Renovations

Alvin H. Butz, Inc. is currently managing the construction of the Community Medical Center C&E Expansion for Geisinger Health System in Scranton, which will be completed in 2017.  They are also managing projects for the Parkland and Allentown School Districts, among other projects.


Alexander Building Construction Co. is overseeing multiple projects, including the expansion of Mount Nittany Health’s Perioperative Services, a new medical office building for UPMC Altoona, and a new Student Enrichment Center at The Pennsylvania State University’s Harrisburg campus.


Shoemaker Construction Co. is also hard at work on numerous projects, including a multi-purpose room addition for Mastery Charter Schools – Harrity Campus, while also overseeing the construction of a new parking garage for Temple University Hospital.
