Harrisburg, PA (September 26, 2018) – You can get a “bird’s eye view” of Harrisburg with the new Over the Edge fundraiser. Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Capital Region’s (BBBSCR) is holding their second annual adventure roof-top event, Over the Edge, on October 19th. Participants raise $1,000 to rappel down the 18-story Market Square Plaza building on 2nd Street, a 220-foot descent. The funds raised provide ongoing support for BBBSCR’s youth mentoring programs.
The goal of the event is to raise $100,000 to grow and sustain BBBSCR’s local youth mentoring programs. This local affiliate of the national program serves five counties, including Dauphin County, where the event takes place. Big Brothers Big Sisters is an evidence-base program with positive outcomes including children in the program achieving higher aspirations, greater confidence, educational success, and better relationships.
Event registration is near capacity; there are only 19 spots remaining. Participants are already fundraising to support youth mentoring but there’s still time to raise your $1,000 to participate. Anyone interested in participating should visit CAPBIGS.ORG and use the code OTEHBG at registration to receive a $20 discount on the current $50 registration fee.
“Over the Edge 2018 is turning out to be even bigger and better than last year,” says Maddie Young, BBBSCR President & CEO. “We’re anticipating more engagement and excitement all around. We encourage everyone to donate and attend the event to watch our participants descend down the building.”
The community is invited to join BBBSCR on October 19th, 9am-5pm at Market Square Plaza, 17 N 2nd Street in downtown Harrisburg. Participants will be announced as they descend so family, friends and coworkers can capture unique photos and video. Aside from the spectacle of individuals descending the 18 stories, audience members will enjoy live music from our DJ and an opportunity to chat with BBBSCR staff.
9:00 AM – Rappelling begins. Two lanes of 2nd Street will be closed for viewing area.
12:00 PM – Main Announcements & Featured Participants.
2:30 PM – Two closed lanes of 2nd Street will reopen.
5:00 PM – End of event
Sponsorship opportunities are still available including Ropes Sponsors, a Liquid Courage Reception Sponsor and the most popular one from last year, a “Toss Your Boss” sponsorship where employees (or a company itself) nominate a top employee to go Over the Edge. Additionally, companies or individuals may sponsor a local police officer to rappel. Many officers participating in Over the Edge serve as youth mentors through the BBBSCR program “Bigs in Blue.”
Individuals or companies interested in participating in Over the Edge can go to CAPBIGS.ORG for more information and to register. A discount registration is available: participants can use the code OTEHBG to receive a $20 discount from the regular registration fee of $50.
