Assembling a powerful team: Saxton & Stump’s marketing and business development team expands, adding experienced professional Sherry Smith

Saxton & Stump announced the addition of Sherry L. Smith as a Business Development Strategist, who brings more than 20 years of experience in sales and marketing roles. Led by Jenna R. Wagner, Vice President of Marketing and Business Development, the team now has 14 dedicated business development, marketing and concierge services professionals across the firm’s three locations to support their growing client base and team of attorneys.

The marketing and business development team is made up of strategists, business development coaches, communications consultants, graphic and website designers, copywriters, project managers and social media specialists. The business development professionals work with the firm’s attorneys to identify emerging opportunities in areas that correspond with client needs. They create and implement strategies for client acquisition and strengthening customer relationships. This team also provides support to several of the firm’s affiliated businesses.  

The marketing team compliments business development efforts by creating content, executing communications plans and promoting brand recognition. The services offered by the marketing and business development team generated so much interest that it inspired Saxton & Stump to form marketing agency Granite Creative Group, which launched in October and is expected to grow significantly in 2020.   

Prior to joining the firm, Smith worked for a local media production company where she was a business development specialist. She has also spent time as a business development director, consulting Lancaster businesses on advertising sales and sponsorship placements to grow their brand recognition and support their business growth.

Assembling a powerful team 

In 2019, Saxton & Stump internally restructured its resources and promoted Wagner to lead the firm’s combined marketing and business development team. They also made a move to add concierge services professionals to reaffirm the firm’s commitment to five-star service environment by anticipating client needs and organizing accommodations for the firm’s visitors. Jennifer L. Steele joined as Director of Concierge Services and has more than 25 years of experience in the hospitality industry – including at the famed Innisbrook, the home of the annual PGA TOUR’s Valspar Championship. 

A seasoned legal and professional services marketer, Wagner has served in marketing and business development roles for several Central Pennsylvania law firms including CGA Law Firm, McNees Wallace & Nurick LLC and Barley Snyder – where Saxton & Stump also hired Abigail R. Hall from in 2017. Hall was previously a marketing coordinator for Barley Snyder and is now a business development strategist for Saxton & Stump, along with Smith. 

Last year, the team added attorney and corporate finance executive Derek W. Leckow, to the team as Senior Market Strategist, who has more than 20 years of experience working closely on business transactions including mergers and acquisitions and building relationships with investors and business leaders. Leckow was most recently a vice president in the integration management office with Dentsply Sirona, an international medical device company.  

In 2018, Briana A. Hallett joined the team from Philadelphia-based PFM, the same financial and investment advisory firm that Saxton & Stump hired Wagner from in 2017. Hallett has more than 10 years of experience serving in marketing and client service roles and now serves as the team’s editor and project manager. This year, in addition to Smith, Saxton & Stump plans to add another concierge services team member for its Malvern location and an executive assistant to support the business development team.

Saxton & Stump’s strategic growth outlook  

Saxton & Stump continues to generate interest in the legal community with its continuous expansion. The firm has added two attorneys already this year and formed a new practice area in Bankruptcy and Creditors’ Rights. Based on the strategic plan for 2020, the firm plans to expand its current team of 46 lawyers and more than 100 total professionals. 

Last year, Saxton & Stump grew not only its number of professionals and practice areas, but also its geographic footprint. The Lancaster office saw an increase of about 30 percent, while the Harrisburg office tripled in size and the Malvern office doubled in size.
