Harrisburg, PA, August 3, 2015 . . . Alexander Building Construction Co., a Butz Family Company, recently completed an addition to Lycoming College’s science building in Williamsport, PA.
The new Lynn Science Center, a three-story, 31,500 square-foot addition connects to the north side of the existing science building. It includes space for the school’s Astronomy, Geology and Physics programs.
“We are excited to unveil this state-of-the-art teaching and laboratory space to our faculty and students,” said Jeff Bennett, VP of Finance and Administration at Lycoming College. “I’m confident the new addition will aid our current students in achieving their academic goals and will be a strong incentive for prospective students. Alexander delivered exceptional construction management services in a team approach with the College and the design team to make this project a reality for us this year,” Bennett noted.
Features of the addition include:
- Research Laboratory space for faculty and students
- Collaboration and group study spaces
- Offices and support space
- Central atrium/public space
- Additional parking and a new campus gateway
- Rain Garden courtyard
A focal point of the addition is the new Detwiler Planetarium: a 35-foot-wide domed planetarium which will use a digital projection system to recreate the night sky and astronomical bodies.
Construction began in July 2014 and took one year to complete. The building is opening for classes in August.
“We are proud to have served as the construction manager on this important project for Lycoming College and would like to thank the College, the design team and our subcontractor partners for the great team effort on this project,” said Rick Seitz, President of Alexander Building Construction Co.
