Harrisburg, PA, September 11, 2015 . . . Alexander Building Construction Co., a Butz Family Company, recently completed renovations to Wesley Residence Hall at Lycoming College. Alexander provided full preconstruction and construction services on the project.
Wesley Hall, originally built in 1956, was completely renovated in three months this summer. The 27,730 sq. ft. renovation included the conversion of the existing double-room dormitory layout into suite-style living quarters with private bathrooms. The newly renovated residence hall also accommodates Lycoming College’s Affinity Housing program.
“We knew the scope of work was extensive and would be a challenge to complete in the three month window, so we engaged Alexander early this year to develop a plan to accomplish our goal,” said Jeff Bennett, VP of Finance and Administration at Lycoming College. “Alexander’s plan allowed long-lead materials to be procured while final design continued so that materials were available when needed during construction. This was critical to the success of the project. The subcontractors that were selected were also key to the success of the project. We really appreciated their commitment to the schedule.”
Additional features of the renovation include:
- Community kitchens and lounges on each floor
- New entrance pavilion with ADA accessible entrances
- New elevator
- Site improvements, including parking lot modifications and storm water revisions
- New mechanical, electrical and fire protection systems
- Structural modifications to accommodate new building layout
- New partitions, drywall ceilings and new wall and floor finishes
“This project was a true team effort,” said Rick Seitz, President of Alexander Building Construction Co. “It required innovative solutions to the challenges involved in designing then constructing a complete renovation that included new structural modifications to allow partition configuration changes, installing a new masonry elevator shaft in an existing building, and replacing the mechanical and electrical systems while installing a new fire protection system, all in a three month window during the summer break. We thank Lycoming College for their confidence in Alexander, and we thank our design and subcontractor partners for their commitment to this project.”
