“We are constantly looking at ways to better provide healthcare services to our patients,” said Harold Brungard, Vice President of Facilities and Plant Operations at Mount Nittany Medical Center. “The perioperative services expansion helped us in that goal, and Alexander’s project team echoed that sentiment through the high quality of work they put into the project.”

The expansion included a new four-story, 68,000 square-foot addition as well as 10,000 square-feet of renovations to the hospital’s sterile processing department.

Major components of the project include:

  • 5 new operating rooms, including a state-of-the-art hybrid OR
  • 19-bed post-anesthesia care unit
  • 6,000 SF Pharmacy and Clean Room
  • Nine prep/recovery bays
  • New 750 KW emergency generator
  • New medical air and vacuum systems
  • Replacement of 13 existing air-handling units

Construction on the project started in Summer 2012 and took roughly 2 ½ years to complete.  Much of the construction took place adjacent to the existing hospital, including multiple operating rooms.  This required the Alexander team to implement careful phasing and coordination with the hospital’s administration to ensure operations and safety were maintained at all times.

“Our team did an impeccable job of working with Mount Nittany so that their doctors, nurses, employees and patients faced limited disruptions throughout the duration of the project,” said Chris Magent, General Manager of Alexander’s State College location and Business Development and Strategic Initiatives Director of the Butz Family of Companies.

The Alexander team is also underway on renovations to the Centre Medical Sciences Building on the MNMC campus.  The renovations will include:

  • Renovated Allergy Clinic
  • Renovated Radiology Suite & Lab
  • New Family Medicine Residency Center

Renovations began in February and are expected to take 8 months to finish, with completion expected in October of this year.
