Ben Franklin Technology Partners and Harrisburg Regional Chamber & CREDC Launch the Ben Franklin TechCelerator @Carlisle

HARRISBURG (May 9, 2011) - On Thursday afternoon, the Harrisburg Regional Chamber & CREDC (HRC/CREDC) and Ben Franklin Technology Partners announced the launch of the Ben Franklin TechCelerator @Carlisle at a  press conference and ribbon cutting at the Murata Business Center (453 Lincoln Street, Carlisle). In this new partnership, the Ben Franklin Technology Partners of Central and Northern Pennsylvania is expanding the services offered to entrepreneurs and business clients at the Carlisle-based Murata Business Incubator. Ben Franklin has extended the support of its Transformation Business Services Team, a group of experienced business professionals, to all the Murata Business Center businesses, and to new prospective entrepreneurs.  This additional intensive business assistance is designed to increase the growth rate and success of these Cumberland County companies.

In addition, Ben Franklin and the HRC/CREDC have designed and launched a new service program targeting very early-stage entrepreneurs. The new TechCelerator is a designated, shared space and array of pre-launch business and market research services designed to assist inventors and early-stage entrepreneurs in converting their business ideas and concepts into reality.  The initial TechCelerator class of entrepreneurs consists of six entrepreneurs who are currently in process of refining their business concept.  Additional TechCelerator groups will be launching this summer.

Pam Martin, the Executive Director of the Ben Franklin TechCelerator Program commented, "Our partnership with CREDC in developing the TechCelerator gives area entrepreneurs the opportunity to not only get hands-on help with developing a solid, fundable business plan, but also some seed money to get them started. We filled the initial openings very quickly, but there are six open seats for the summer term. We'll be taking applications until June 15, 2011."

The TechCelerator is designated, shared space in a business incubator environment. Eligible start-ups, chosen to participate in the program, will each receive $1,000 in seed money to get them started on their business concept. Business mentoring from Ben Franklin's Transformation Business Services staff, the SBDC, and Murata personnel will be available at no cost for 60 days.
