Harrisburg Regional Chamber & CREDC Unveils Regional Champion Initiative at Annual Dinner
HARRISBURG (March 21, 2011) - Nearly 500 members of the regional business community were in attendance at the Harrisburg Regional Chamber & CREDC (HRC/CREDC) Annual Dinner, featuring a keynote address from Dennis Yablonsky, Allegheny Conference CEO, who shared the story of Pittsburgh's most recent renaissance, the leadership role of the private sector through the Allegheny Conference and what lessons can be learned by those of us in the Harrisburg Region. The "Regional Champion" initiative was also unveiled, along with recognition of outgoing Chamber Board Chair, Madlyn Hanes, and board members.
The Regional Champion initiative began about one year ago, led by a group of Chamber members designed to promote, lead and advance our region through uniting and engaging the private sector in order to create a viable and prosperous regional community. Bub Manning, Principle of The Quandel Group, Inc. and Chair of the Champions said, "Leadership starts with us. We want to help get the City back on track and also be Champions for our regional assets, like for our transportation advantage, roads, rail and airport; champions for cultural assets, for our colleges and universities, and for our region as a tourism destination. We will recruit more Champions and Champion more of what makes our region a special place. We sincerely believe our region rocks. We also know that there really is no place like home."
The Regional Champions initiative also speaks to business leaders, as they are encouraged through this program to take every step possible to aide in the development and adoption of a successful plan to begin mending the fiscal problems the City of Harrisburg is facing at this time. "The problems not only affect the City, but the entire region," added David Black, Chamber & CREDC President.
The Harrisburg Regional Chamber & CREDC serves as a catalyst for promoting growth and quality of life in Cumberland, Dauphin and Perry Counties by providing a unique blend of business, community and economic development and advocacy services under one roof to boost our economic vitality and livability as a region. HRC/CREDC has been accredited with four stars from the United States Chamber of Commerce.
