U.S. Chamber Awards Harrisburg Regional Chamber & CREDC Highest Accreditation

HARRISBURG (March 21, 2011) - The United States Chamber of Commerce has awarded the Harrisburg Regional Chamber & CREDC with 5-Star Accreditation for its sound policies, effective organizational procedures, and positive impact on the community.  The Harrisburg Regional Chamber & CREDC is one of only 67 Chambers of Commerce nationwide to earn 5 Star Accreditation which places it in the top 1% of Chambers nationwide.

"Accreditation is one of the highest honors bestowed on chambers fighting for pro-growth and jobs, policies at the federal, state and local level. Many chambers employ the Accreditation process as a way to establish organizational excellence.  Nonetheless, your chamber went above and beyond our minimum requirements and was one of seven chambers to be awarded our 5-Star designation at our most recent board meeting," said Tom Donahue, President & CEO of the US Chamber of Commerce in a letter to David Black, President of the Chamber & CREDC notifying the organization of the accomplishment.

Accreditation is the only national program that recognizes chambers for their effective organizational procedures and community involvement. In order to receive Accreditation, a chamber must meet minimum standards in their operations and programs, including areas of governance, government affairs, and technology. This extensive self-review can take 6-9 months to complete followed by an independent analysis by the US Chamber of Commerce's Accreditation review process.  HRC/CREDC completed the process in three months.

"This distinction is a tribute to our Boards of Directors, our members and our staff.  We have strived to provide the very best over the years for the region and our business community we so proudly serve.  We believe that our mission goes beyond helping businesses to grow; it is also a commitment to help our region grow and succeed.  A strong, healthy regional chamber is representative of strong, healthy regions throughout our nation and the world today.  We appreciate this designation and recognition of these collective efforts from the US Chamber of Commerce," said David Black, President & CEO of the Harrisburg Regional Chamber & CREDC.

Local chambers are rated Accredited, 3-Stars, 4-Stars, or 5-Stars. State chambers are recognized as either Accredited State Chamber or Accredited State Chamber with Distinction. The final determination is made by the Accrediting Board, a committee of U.S. Chamber board members.

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is the world's largest business federation representing the interests of more than 3 million businesses of all sizes, sectors, and regions, as well as state and local chambers and industry associations.

The Harrisburg Regional Chamber & CREDC serves as a catalyst for promoting growth and quality of life in Cumberland, Dauphin and Perry Counties by providing a unique blend of business, community and economic development and advocacy services under one roof to boost our economic vitality and livability as a region. HRC/CREDC is a nationally accredited Chamber of Commerce by the United States Chamber of Commerce
