The Harrisburg Regional Chamber and Capital Region Economic Development Corporation Helps PC Parts Expand

HARRISBURG, PA (January 4, 2008) - The Harrisburg Regional Chamber and Capital Region Economic Development Corporation (HRC/CREDC) announced today that it provided financing to PC Parts, Inc. to purchase a commercial building along S. 17 th Street in the City of Harrisburg. This new location will serve to expand the company's warehousing and distribution space.

"This loan from CREDC helped PC Parts acquire much-needed space to allow further growth in the Midstate," stated George Crist, President of PC Parts, Inc.  "Since the acquisition of the property, PC Parts has added 13 new employees to the payroll."

PC Parts, Inc started in 1985 as Computer Maintenance Service, Inc. This company was founded by George Crist Sr. to address local and regional demand for desktop PC maintenance. As demand for third party maintenance parts rose through the late 80's, Computer Maintenance Service began addressing this need by refurbishing and reselling parts to other maintenance companies. By 1992 this division split off to form its own company, PC Parts, Inc. Today, the company is run by George Crist, Jr. and is a multimillion-dollar computer parts distributor, specializing in surplus and cutting edge technology with approximately 45 employees and 70,000 square feet. They concentrate on remarketing computer parts into the computer service industry and also engage in the manufacturing of laser printer parts.

"The expanded use of computers and information technology, coupled with the continuing evolution producing new hardware, makes critical the quality provision of good maintenance services.  George Crist, Sr., and PC Parts, Inc., know this, which is why they are a true business success story," stated Mayor Stephen R. Reed, City of Harrisburg. "The South 17 th Corridor has considerable potential that will be the focus of much more economic development attention in the coming months.  The move of this company to this Corridor is therefore a major plus for the company but, strategically, for the Corridor and City."

HRC/CREDC provided an Enterprise Zone loan of $150,000 in conjunction with the financing from Mid Penn Bank and additional equity contributions. Total project costs were $541,875. The project is expected to retain 45 full-time jobs.
