The Capital Region Economic Development Corporation, on behalf of a regional partnership, received a Keystone Innovation Zone designation for the Harrisburg region in 2004. The KIZ initiative is a program of the Pennsylvania Department of Community & Economic Development. The purpose of the Harrisburg Market KIZ initiative is to encourage the commercialization of R&D currently occurring at colleges and universities in the Harrisburg region, as well as enhance entrepreneurial activity in the region and create career opportunities for young professionals. CREDC will serve as the administrator of the grant, which was an award of $250,000 for the first year, with funding per year declining over the next four years.
